Aussie Golfer Cam Davis Nearly Breaks 25-Year PGA Tour Record at WM Phoenix Open! (2026)

WATCH: Aussie golfer Cam Davis is tantalizingly close to achieving a remarkable milestone that hasn't been seen on the PGA Tour for a quarter of a century.

As he competes in the WM Phoenix Open this week, Davis has successfully made the cut after finishing the first two rounds at -2. This means he will continue playing over the weekend, but it’s clear that his performance could have been even more impressive had luck been on his side during the critical 17th hole.

On this short par four, Davis took an aggressive approach by driving his ball straight toward the green. It landed perfectly on the front and rolled agonizingly close to the hole, just missing the chance for an eagle. Instead, he was left with a manageable four-foot putt, which he confidently sank. Had his tee shot found its way into the hole, Davis would have celebrated a historic hole-in-one on a par four—the first of its kind on the PGA Tour in 25 years!

Interestingly, this remarkable feat was last accomplished back in 2001 by American golfer Andrew Magee, who famously recorded the only hole-in-one on a par four in the history of the tour, also on the same hole.

Looking ahead to Rounds 3 and 4 of the Phoenix Open, Davis finds himself currently sitting at -2, nine strokes behind the tournament leader, Ryo Hisatsune. Achieving victory from here would require a significant turn of events. The Australian golfer Min Woo Lee is faring better, having carded an impressive second-round score of -6, putting him at -6 for the tournament and five shots off the lead.

In contrast, world number one Scottie Scheffler has managed to bounce back after a less-than-stellar opening round, now starting the weekend at -4, trailing Hisatsune by seven shots as well.

LEADERBOARD – ROUND 2
- Ryo Hisatsune: -11

- Pierceson Coody: -8
- Akshay Bhatia: -7

- Matt Fitzpatrick: -7

MW Lee (AUS): -6

Scottie Scheffler: -4

Cam Davis (AUS): -2

Missed Cut

But here's where it gets controversial: can a single moment define a player's entire career? What do you think about the weight of such near-misses in sports? Share your thoughts below!
