Get ready for a television production titan! A colossal, multi-billion pound merger between Banijay and All3Media could be on the horizon, with reports suggesting an announcement might be made as early as this week. This potential union would create a powerhouse in the entertainment industry, bringing together some of the most recognizable brands under one roof.
Imagine a world where MasterChef, the gripping drama Peaky Blinders (which is making a comeback with a film and a new series!), the ever-popular Big Brother, the intense reality competition Squid Game: The Challenge, and the thrilling The Traitors all belong to the same production family. That's the kind of scale we're talking about with this proposed deal.
Discussions between these two major players were first confirmed back in January, and the latest whispers from Sky News indicate that talks are in a “very advanced” stage. While a deal is not yet a certainty, the possibility of it being finalized this week has sent ripples of excitement through the industry.
But here's where it gets interesting... This isn't the first time these companies have been in talks. Sources hinted at a deal being imminent at the London TV Screenings just last week. This comes after Banijay previously stepped away from a potential acquisition of ITV Studios. It seems the landscape of production is constantly shifting as companies look to grow and adapt to the evolving ways we consume content, moving from traditional TV to the ever-expanding world of streaming.
Collectively, these two groups are no small potatoes; they raked in approximately €6 billion (that's about £5.2 billion!) in combined revenues in 2024. This immense financial clout underscores the significance of this potential merger.
It's worth noting that Banijay, which is publicly traded on the Amsterdam stock exchange, had previously explored acquiring All3Media in 2023. However, the valuations at the time didn't quite align, leading to All3Media being acquired by RedBird IMI instead. Then, in a twist of fate, All3Media was later linked with a potential acquisition of ITV Studios in January 2025, but that too didn't materialize. Meanwhile, Comcast-owned Sky is reportedly eyeing a substantial deal to acquire ITV's broadcasting and streaming operations.
And this is the part most people miss: Despite the past hurdles and industry speculation, many have viewed this latest potential Banijay-All3Media deal as likely to succeed from the very beginning. Banijay, a French entity with a vast network of over 130 production companies across 25 territories, has been diligently expanding its revenue streams, even incorporating its gaming firm, BetClic, under the Banijay Group umbrella.
All3Media, on the other hand, boasts a portfolio of more than 40 labels spread across key markets like the UK, US, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. They are the creative minds behind hits like Squid Game: The Challenge (produced by Studio Lambert) and Two Brothers. This impressive group was acquired by RedBird IMI in May 2024 for a hefty £1.15 billion, following a deal with previous owners Warner Bros Discovery and Liberty Global.
If this merger goes through, it would likely involve Banijay’s Entertainment & Live division joining forces with All3Media. RedBird IMI is reportedly prepared to inject further capital into this new, combined entity. Sky has also reported that Marco Bassetti, the chief executive of Banijay Entertainment, would be at the helm of this merged powerhouse.
When approached for comment on these latest developments, Banijay chose not to elaborate, directing inquiries to their previous statement from January. At that time, they emphasized that “no decision has been taken and that there can be no assurance that a transaction will be concluded.” All3Media had not yet responded to requests for comment by the time this report was filed.
