Florida's Space Coast is a hotbed of activity, with an incredible 109 orbital rocket launches in 2025, a new record. This year, as of June 15, we've already seen 40 launches, a testament to the region's importance in the space industry.
One of the most notable launches this year was NASA's Artemis II mission in April, which sent four astronauts on a historic flyby around the moon, pushing the boundaries of human exploration. However, May saw a slowdown, with only six launches, a stark contrast to the previous month's activity.
The upcoming week, starting June 17, will see a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch three AST SpaceMobile broadband satellites. This mission, known as Bluebird 8-10, is scheduled for a 2:39 a.m. ET liftoff from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Additionally, SpaceX has another launch on the horizon, tentatively named Globalstar 2-R Launch 1, which will send a batch of communications satellites into low-Earth orbit.
What makes this particularly fascinating is the visibility of these launches. Depending on factors like weather and trajectory, rocket launches from Florida's Space Coast can be seen as far north as Jacksonville Beach and as far south as West Palm Beach. It's incredible to think that these powerful machines, launching from Brevard County, can light up the skies across such a vast area.
