This is the essence of Su Dongpo’s Pleasures at Banhu Ridge, a project by AOMOMO Studio at Shanghai Jiao Tong University that transforms a challenging site into a poetic dwelling. Designed by a team led by Zhang Hai’ao, Li Di, and others, the building gracefully follows the curve of the ridge, aligning with the highway while addressing the elevation challenges through cantilever design. And this is the part most people miss: the surrounding bamboo forests act as a natural barrier, creating a serene, mountain-hidden ambiance, while a golden trumpet tree piercing through the roof adds a striking visual focal point, breathing life into the rugged landscape.
The project’s construction documentation was handled by China State Construction Engineering Shanghai Design Institute Co., Ltd., with a team including Jiang Juan and Wang Xiaoye. Shanghai Fengyuzhu Cultural Technology Co., Ltd. served as the executive organization, under the direction of Zhang Jingwei.
